Exhibition: Picasso's will. The ceramics that inspired the artist

Exhibition - Ceramics
Barcelona

The Museu del Disseny in Barcelona houses an important set of ceramics by Picasso. This exhibition features his collection and shows the influence of traditional Spanish ceramics on the artist's work.“How is it possible that they did this before me?” According to newspapers reports, these were Picasso's words, in the spring of 1957, at the exhibition on Spanish ceramics held at the Palais Miramar in Cannes. Titled La ceràmique espagnole, du XIIIème siècle a nos jours, the exhibition brought together a selection of ceramics made from the 13th to the 19th century and, in addition to arousing the artist's admiration, motivated him to donate 16 of his works to the Barcelona Art Museums. The pieces donated by Picasso are currently part of the collections of the Museu del Disseny. They are now displayed in dialogue with a series of pieces of ancient and traditional Spanish ceramics in the exhibition “Picasso's will. The ceramics that inspired the artist”. It also includes a selection of works from the museum shown at the 1957 exhibition in Cannes, as well as documents and photographs related to the artist's donation.
