Basque Coast

The coast in the Basque Country has natural landscapes with steep escarpments, estuaries flowing down to the sea, and mountain ranges clothed in beech and oak woods. Its towns have a long fishing tradition, which can be experienced in its everyday life and in the flavours of the local cuisine.

You can also see the World Heritage Vizcaya suspension bridge, the oldest functioning transporter bridge in existence.

Nature

You'll find unique landscapes –for example when you follow the Flysch Route from Zumaia to Mutriku passing through Deba, where you'll see cliffs with over 60 million years of history. Also recommended is the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. Another exceptional site is the coast of Bermeo, with the island of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. A boat cruise around the area will convince you of its magic.

Maritime tradition

Discover this in small villages like Bermeo, Lekeitio, Getaria, Hondarribia and Santurzi, where a good way to see for yourself is through the cuisine. We recommend the char-grilled fish, anchovies, the fish stew known as "marmitako", and the hake with hake cheeks.
